Just my two cents worth, but my experience was much like Roux as well. I had an account for a long time, still have it, mostly have been doing the "log-in-to-set-up-skill-queue-and-log-off" game, so loads of SP but just started doing level 3 missions. Why? Because EVE is a rather confusing game, and I have a real world job that takes up a lot of time. So I started a second account, in part to join EVE University and in part to actually build a character with some purpose rather than a random skill queue build. I had just heard about it from an EON magazine article, and it sounded promising. They have a reputation of trying to help new players learn how to play the game. Learning that their reputation is not trueąwell, that hurts more than losing all your ISK.
And like Roux, I was denied the opportunity. IĘm still unsure why, although I think itĘs because of my other account. ItĘs the only thing I could think of. But I still donĘt know how to play, and as noted on the forumsąthereĘs a lot of backstabbing out there, so knowing where to go is a bit of a problem.
The problem is that there really arenĘt any alternatives. Yes, yesąthereĘs only 6900+ corps out there that say they are new player friendly. Good luck with that, since 6800+ really arenĘt new player friendly despite what they say, for one reason or another. And with zero feedback on why one isnĘt suitable for EVE Uni, itĘs kinda hard to know what went wrong. Even the folks on the EVE Uni channel donĘt know of a single, solid alternative out there, so what chance does a solo player have to figure it out?
So I can understand Roux. Still canĘt play the game, those that say that theyĘll teach you wonĘt, and not really knowing where to go from hereąwell, why continue to pay for the game? Oh, IĘm sure IĘll still run the occasional hi-sec solo mission, or mine on the other character. But I had hoped for more.
Read, watch videos, try stuff, fail, try again, then or maybe instead of playing solo join some corps, some will blow, some will be okay, and you might find one that is a good fit. You won't know until you try and keep trying, there is a time to do stuff on your own but if you want to learn more/faster/better you work with other people. Doing that in EVE means you take a chance they are 'worth it' just like they take a chance on you not to mention all the backstabbing that is possible.
This is true, took me just under 5 years to find the best corp in Eve
